Switzerland, the 1940s. Whilst the country remains officially neutral during the Second World War, the inhabitants of a small Swiss village do not turn a blind eye to the atrocities taking place across Europe. But when horrific events occur within their own close-knit Protestant community, criticism is not tolerated. This is also the experience of 15-year-old Emma, who is pregnant following a rape. Instead of silently accepting her fate, she seeks out small acts of resistance.
