When fifteen-year-old Ahmet, a shepherd’s son from a village in North Macedonia, stumbles upon an illegal night-time rave by chance, a whole new world opens up to him. Using a tractor as a sound system, he then creates his own dance floor. Through music and dance, Ahmet seeks a way out of his extremely conservative environment and experiences his first love with a girl who is already promised to another. But his father is more concerned about the sheep that Ahmet lost during his adventure.
Does the story of a young music fan who is regarded as a troublemaker in his conservative village sound familiar? Georgi M. Unkovski’s debut seems to draw heavily on the teen hit Footloose, but the director effortlessly guides DJ Ahmet into the 21st century thanks to his cultural sensitivity, charm and humour.
