It is summer in Budapest when Ábel needs to focus on his final exams. However, his love for best friend Janka keeps him from his work. Janka herself is only concerned with her unrequited love for her married history teacher, who in turn is embroiled in a battle with Ábel’s conservative father. The tensions of a polarised society become unexpectedly clear when Ábel’s final exam becomes the centre of a national scandal. Gábor Reisz’s absurd satire about a lazy schoolboy who triggers a national riot illustrates in an amusingly nuanced way how a hoax arises in a divided society.
