While grazing their herd in the mountains and playing by themselves at a water source, two teenagers are attacked by terrorists. Sixteen-year-old Nizar is killed. Ashraf, who is only fourteen, must deliver a macabre message to his family. A film, based on true events, that focuses on the trauma and grief caused by the murder.
With particularly confident camerawork and direction, the film deals with friendship and the processing of a traumatic, violent event that children experience as victims of political and religious violence. The film is full of poetic imagery, emotionally powerful scenes, pure and natural acting and a beautiful soundtrack with a moving closing song…. Les enfants rouges is a comforting film about grief.
