Leviticus
In a strictly religious rural town in Australia, teenagers Naim (Joe Bird) and Ryan (Stacy Clausen) secretly fall in love with each other. When their community attempts to ‘cure’ them with a conversion ritual, they unleash a violent spirit with a particularly terrifying trait: the creature takes the form of the person its victim longs for most. For Naim and Ryan, that means… each other.
With Leviticus, director Adrian Chiarella has created a harrowing queer horror film in which desire becomes both a source of love and fear. Inspired by Asian genre cinema and modern horror classics such as It Follows and The Witch, Chiarella uses supernatural horror to bring religious oppression and the fear of sexuality to life. Starring Joe Bird (Talk to Me) and Mia Wasikowska (Stoker, Crimson Peak). Following Backrooms and Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, Leviticus confirms that 2026 is a particularly strong year for idiosyncratic and boundary-pushing (meta) horror.
