Pasolini’s sublime look at everyday Roman life, starring Anna Magnani. She plays a prostitute who thinks she can escape from red light life when her pimp Carmine gets married. She becomes a market vendor and arranges a job for her lonely seventeen-year-old son Ettore. Her wish for a respectable life is quickly dashed, as the apple of her eye turns out to be a contrary adolescent who hangs out with the wrong friends.
One of Pasolini’s finest films, it touches a nerve again sixty years after its premiere. Restored in 4K.
