Marty Mauser is an arrogant, spoilt young man in 1950s New York. By day, he works in his uncle’s shoe shop, but nothing can stop him from participating in international table tennis tournaments. What begins as a sports story reveals itself to be a sharp portrait of a failure who lies, cheats and steals, even from those closest to him.
Timothée Chalamet is already being tipped for an Oscar, but the biggest surprise is Gwyneth Paltrow, who is once again in the running for a statuette in her comeback role. She plays his mistress in a dazzling film with the energy of a ping pong ball at match point.
Nominated for 8 Oscars.
