In 1976, activist Maria flees to Mexico, where she works for a newspaper to denounce the corrupt dictatorship in Guatemala. When her ailing mother brings her son Marco back to her, she struggles to choose between her struggles and his safety.
Guatemala, 1976. Maria is an activist who is part of a revolutionary group that opposes the country’s corrupt dictatorship. After a confrontation in which her husband loses his life, she flees to Mexico and must leave her infant son, Marco, with her mother. She assumes a new identity and works for a newspaper, where she tries to bring attention to the situation in Guatemala. Just when she receives a secret document exposing a cover-up regarding the slaughter of her country’s citizens, her mother arrives with her son. Eugenia, due to illness, can no longer care for her grandson and must leave Marco in Mexico, with his mother. Belgian-Guatemalan director César Díaz drew inspiration from events in his own life to make this film.
