2009, Argentina. Three men from a mining company attempted to evict members of the indigenous Chuschagasta community from their land. The violent confrontation ended with the death of leader Javier Chocobar. This crime was filmed. Yet it took nine years of protests before the perpetrators were brought to justice. And they still claimed they had done nothing wrong.
For Argentine filmmaker Lucrecia Martel (La Ciénaga, Zama), Nuestra Tierra is her first documentary. Through archive footage, testimonies, court recordings and a soundtrack featuring local music, Martel explores the remnants of colonialism in Argentina. The result is as compelling as it is disturbing.
