“Things usually get done – just not on time.” These wise words from artist Lizzie, beautifully mastered by Michelle Williams, sum up the paradox at the heart of this engaging, subtle film. Making art is entirely about maintaining the creative flow, but the essential elements of an art career – catalogues, exhibitions, classes – bring deadlines, pressure and obligations. Indeed, it requires you to maintain a complicated series of social contacts with gallery owners, critics, teachers, technicians and, above all, rivals. For Lizzie, this is all but difficult – especially since her biggest rival Jo is also her landlord and friend.
