In the heart of a botanical garden in a German university town stands a gigantic ginkgo tree. This silent witness has been observing the lives of countless people for over a century. In 1908, Grete becomes the first female student at her university. Undeterred, she finds her calling: not in biology, but in photography. Sixty-four years later, Hannes falls in love with a botany student. Whilst he is tasked with supervising a project for her thesis, he begins a rather unusual relationship – with a geranium. And finally, during the 2020 coronavirus lockdown, neuroscientist Tony from Hong Kong finds himself stuck in the deserted university halls of residence. You follow their attempts to connect, as they are transformed by the mysterious power of nature.
