A hilarious and razor-sharp relationship and sex comedy about a couple who’ve grown tired of each other and find themselves in for a few surprises during a dinner with their rather free-spirited upstairs neighbours.
Angela’s (Olivia Wilde) and Joe’s (Seth Rogen) marriage has been in a rut for a while. In particular, their eccentric upstairs neighbours, Hawk (Edward Norton) and Pina (Penélope Cruz), who are remarkably active at night, are getting on Joe’s nerves. When Angela invites them round for dinner, he finally sees his chance to confront them about it. But the evening soon takes a different turn and is full of unexpected moments for both couples.
Filmmaker and actress Olivia Wilde (Booksmart), together with screenwriters Will McCormack and Rashida Jones, drew inspiration from the Spanish film Sentimental. The Invite is a hilarious yet poignant portrait of sex, relationships and marriage that constantly keeps the viewer guessing.
