Charlie (Brendan Fraser) lives reclusively and teaches English online. He is severely overweight and seems to have lost everything in his life. Still, Charlie, full of hope, is trying to reconnect with his 17-year-old daughter Ellie (Sadie Sink). But the latter blames him for abandoning his family. Slowly, we discover how Charlie became the man we see, and how he hopes to still be a father to Ellie. The Whale is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. Aronofsky makes you part of a life you want to look away from, but which moves you to tears.
