A dark night-time scene that looks genuinely dark. Colours so vivid they almost leap off the screen. An image that remains just as sharp and clear from the first minute to the last, right into the furthest corners of the screen. Thanks to new projectors \u2013 locally manufactured by Barco in Kortrijk \u2013 watching films at Budascoop is a whole new experience, and no, our ticket prices aren\u2019t going up.<\/p>\n
With the old projectors, a little light always leaked through the lens, making dark scenes appear dark grey rather than black. The new projectors control the light on a pixel-by-pixel basis, to the point where they can switch the light off completely. The result: much greater depth in the image, as if you were standing right in the middle of it yourself.<\/p>\n
Whereas older projectors could only display a fraction of the colours your eye can perceive, the new projectors cover a much wider spectrum. The bright green in a science fiction film, the deep blue of the ocean, the red of an explosion: you\u2019ll see them more sharply and with greater nuance than before.<\/p>\n
Old cinema lamps lose their intensity over time, meaning the picture is already slightly less bright after just a few months. The new projectors use laser light and maintain that same high brightness, year after year. 3D films also benefit from this: they\u2019re less dark and less tiring on the eyes.<\/p>\n
The new projectors operate in native 4K. If you sit close to the screen, you won\u2019t see any grain or pixels \u2013 just a razor-sharp image. Jacques Tati\u2019s films are visual masterpieces. He shot *Playtime* on extremely expensive 70mm film stock and filled every widescreen frame with hundreds of simultaneous, tiny visual gags in the background. With the new projectors, you won\u2019t miss a single detail.<\/p>\n
Due to this transition, there will be no films screening at Budascoop from 10 to 23 August.<\/strong> From 24 August, we\u2019ll welcome you back with a film programme that\u2019s quintessentially Budascoop: a mix of drama, action, comedy and classics!<\/p>\n Good to know: the BUDA team needs a summer break too.
