Behind that image hides a city that is defined by immense social, economic and racial inequality. The inhabitants of the favelas form a community made invisible which is kept out of the sight of the well-to-do population groups by the intervention of the police.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>&#8220;Dance creates mysterious, unpredictable and unsual bridges; that is where its power and capacity for transformation lie.&#8221; (Alice Ripoll)<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>When Alice Ripoli was asked in 2017 to make a show about the positive effects of great sporting events in the city, she chose to show Rio from the perspective of the artists with whom she has been working for almost ten years. They are black artists who all live in favelas and witness police controls on a daily basis, \u201ccontrols\u201d both meant to find out if someone carries something illegal with him and to intimidate the poorest population groups with violence.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Ripoli\u2019s clues for aCORdo are concise : \u201cno sound, no special lighting, only a hall with chairs and a door\u201d. In a closed space with limited freedom four uniformed dancers create images and stimuli for the audience. They upturn the existing hierarchies and relations between those present via movement and interaction. Thus, in a subtle and seemingly innocent way, a new order originates in which dancer and spectator inevitably are forced to re-orient.
