NA DE RAMP: BEIROET IN MUZIEK

De gebeurtenissen in deze voorstelling vinden plaats in een parallel universum, waar een anti-heldin danser en haar muzikant als vergelding voor decennia van kwaad en corruptie een machtig, ondergefinancierd en losjes georganiseerd koppel vormen dat de misdaad bestrijdt om gerechtigheid te brengen!

Met goede bedoelingen en zonder ervaring zijn ze een doorsnee samenvatting van het hedendaagse Beiroet. Deze creatie is een bijna egoïstische, kinderachtige poging om een oncontroleerbare behoefte aan wraak te voeden. Kayal ziet de dans als een martiaal verzet tegen mensenrechtenschendingen, tegen het gewelddadige verlies van intimiteit en de brandende dorst gerechtigheid.

Stephanie Kayal is een performanceartieste, choreografe en danseres gevestigd in Beiroet. De afgelopen jaren heeft ze als performer samengewerkt met verschillende artiesten en gezelschappen met wie ze optrad in Beiroet, België, Frankrijk, Duitsland, Nederland, Chili, Tunesië, Egypte en Jordanië. Haar tweede creatie Galactic Crush zal in première gaan op NEXT Festival. Ze is losjes verbonden met haar debuut Evidence of Things Not Seen (2021), een voorstelling over een familie die achtervolgd wordt door dans uit haar verleden.

Abed Kobeissy is een in Beiroet gevestigde elektro-akoestische muzikant. Met de Levantijnse buzuq als hoofdinstrument heeft zijn muziek een lokale identiteit, zonder aanspraak te maken op een traditionele of etnische rol. Zijn muziek is gebaseerd op de lokale stedelijke soundscape en behandelt vaak onderwerpen die verband houden met familie en huis.
