Isabela Fernandes Santana – Vanishing Monuments (BR)

The Vanished Color

The Vanished Color is a research-creation project in the form of an adaptable performance. Drawing from her Brazilian family history, she explores the tensions, contradictions, and complexities of contemporary racial relations. She reimagines Black presence and invisibility across generations. She uses black holes (cosmic phenomena that absorb all light) as metaphors for Blackness, understood as an infinite process connecting past and present. Through movement and sound, the project explores how notions of gravity, centre, and periphery can be embodied and transformed, giving rise to new bodily states, imaginaries, and sonic spaces.

This residency marks the second stage of the project’s development. During this period, she will continue engaging with archival research through an ongoing practice of embodiment and imagination, while shifting the focus toward movement research and choreographic writing process. In the second week, she will collaborate with Rodrigo Batista in a dialogue on dramaturgy and the search for the solo’s form.
