…Vive la Dictature

The research project …Vive la Dictature investigates instability, hesitation and doubt as choreographic motifs.
It takes a look at how those feelings manifest in a dancing body and whether their expression will bring forth a new kind of aesthetic in response to a shifting world order.

The philosophical writings La force du mou by Géraldine Mosna-Savoye and La passion de l’incertitude by Dorian Astor together with the Tang Ping resistance movement (Chinese for « lying flat ») amongst younger Chinese citizens against the widespread self-exploitation at work, as well as the Gudetama comic figure from Japan will serve as inspirational springboards into questions around the confused, wobbly and refusing body.

They will investigate different types of tonicity in the body and look at how, when and why we shift from soft to hard, from vacuous to intentional, from flaccid to focussed. They wonder if – and how – a lack of firmness in the body can radiate into space, how it may – against all odds – be able to transport a determination in movement and direction which may be very different in appearance, yet as impactful as that of a firm and directed body – possibly even more.
