Following La Collectionneuse (2021) and Am I Evil? (2022–ongoing), Simone Basani and Alice Ciresola have begun exploring themes that will lead to a third work within the JEANNE. Or the Western Touch collection. In this research phase, they investigate the transmission of narrations of life experiences, asking how—and, above all, whether—different bodies can receive, carry, and retransmit these materials, and what this reveals about material and immaterial inheritance.

JEANNE. Or the Western Touch is a collection of performative and participatory works investigating the legacy of Belgian collector and trader of African artifacts Jeanne Walschot and, through it, how whiteness is constructed and reproduced.

Simone Basani is kunstenaar, curator en kunstproducent. Alice Ciresola is een onafhankelijk onderzoeker en curator. Ze ontwikkelen participatieve projecten en site-specific kunstvormen, waarbij ze de grenzen tussen publieke en institutionele ruimtes onderzoeken. In het bijzonder richten ze zich op de rol van verwaarloosde stemmen in collectieve processen van historisch vergeten en herinneren. Ze vragen zich af wat materieel en immaterieel erfgoed betekent en aan wie het toebehoort.
