Andiamo A Bere l’Ultima (The Last One for the Road)
Carlobianchi and Doriano are two penniless men in their fifties who are hoping to pull off one last big heist, or at the very least have one last drink. Since the 2008 financial crisis, the con artists have failed to set up a lucrative scam. When their old friend Genio returns and a hidden hoard seems to be waiting for them somewhere in the Venetian countryside, a nocturnal odyssey begins, taking them through bars, memories and missed opportunities. Along the way, they take the shy architecture student Giulio under their wing, who gains from his two unlikely mentors a view of life and love that is as murky as it is liberating.
Francesco Sossai turns their journey into a tragicomic road movie brimming with melancholy, dry humour and warmth: a heartfelt ode to friendship, failures and lost dreams. *Andiamo A Bere l’Ultima* premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and went on to become the big winner at the David di Donatello Awards, taking home no fewer than eight prizes, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor.
