Russia, 2022. Gleb runs a successful business and lives with his wife Galina and their son in a provincial town. When war breaks out in Ukraine, he is ordered to select employees for mobilisation to the front. As the pressure on his business and those around him mounts, Gleb discovers that his wife is having an affair. His carefully constructed life begins to slowly implode and threatens to descend into violence.
Almost ten years after Loveless, Andrey Zvyagintsev (Leviathan, The Return) returns with a chilling political thriller, loosely inspired by Claude Chabrol’s La Femme infidèle. An intimate marital crisis escalates into a much broader reflection on a society in which war, power and violence are encroaching ever more deeply on everyday life. The title refers to the mythical monster lurking in the labyrinth – and to what emerges when a person is driven further and further into a corner.
Minotaur won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival and is France’s official entry for the Oscar for Best International Feature Film. An absolute must-see this year!
Don’t miss The Return and The Banishment. In December, we’ll also be screening Loveless and Leviathan.
