After seven years as artistic director of the BUDA arts centre in Kortrijk, Mathilde Villeneuve is set to join the Bordeaux School of Fine Arts (Ebabx) as Director of Studies from mid-August.
During her time at BUDA, she contributed to the development of a rich and open artistic programme, working in close collaboration with numerous artists and partners. Her work helped shape the centre as a space attentive to contemporary forms of creation, as well as to collective practices and intersections with other fields such as education, care, and heritage.
She also played a key role in positioning the organisation within European networks that encourage collaborative practices and shared governance, further opening the programme to new voices and ways of working.
BUDA Arts Centre is taking the time until the summer to, together with its team, reshape its future, notably in preparation for the 2028–2032 policy plans that it will submit, as a ten-year core institution, to the Flemish Community by December 2026.
Mathilde Villeneuve: “I experienced BUDA Arts Centre and Belgium as exceptionally welcoming, and as home to one of the most intense and diverse artistic scenes I know. I invite everyone to discover a glimpse of that scene during the Almost Summer Festival in June – it already feels like the most beautiful farewell I could imagine. A remarkable programme is also in store for the NEXT Festival in November.”
