Jonas Baeke and Jef Hellemans join us for the fourth week of rehearsals. This week, the first steps will be taken towards setting the movement material to sound. They will try to find a balance between improvisation and composition. They will also use the large floor space to explore ideas about composition, scenography and lighting. They will end the week with a first (internal) try-out.

Beep Street is a movement performance in which performers dance and play to the rhythm of scanners, fitness equipment and digital voice commands. With a cast of performers from dance, physical theatre and performance, director Jonas Baeke and performer Jef Hellemans create a poetic collision between body and system. Sound and movement intertwine like a glitching machine, in a performance that balances between liberation and oppression.

Jonas Baeke and Jef Hellemans met at KASK while working on various projects. The school became a place where we could develop our shared love of physical theatre, the humour of the body, and the encounter between anecdote and abstraction in ever-changing ways. They are interested in slapstick, post-humanist theory, and the influence of technology on our body image.
