Calixto Neto (BR/FR)
Bruits Marrons

The residency in BUDA will be the first technical residency of the show Bruits Marrons. The whole team comes together for the first time. In BUDA, they start designing the lighting plan and place some set elements in the space. Meanwhile, they also continue writing the text.
Bruits Marrons is a creation inspired by the work Evil Nigger and reflections on the life of its composer, African-American musician Julius Eastman. Like a quilombo (community of escaped slaves living together freely and autonomously), the performance brings together a musician and five dancers (supported by a large artistic and technical team) to create a community that asks questions about (contemporary) resistance and solidarity. They do this through music. It will premiere at the Festival d’Automne 2025.
Calixto Neto (BR/FR)
Originally from Brazil, choreographer Calixto Neto moved to France in 2013 – after six years with Lia Rodrigues’ company – to pursue the ex.e.r.ce master’s programme at the Centre Chorégraphique de Montpellier. Since his arrival in France, Calixto has developed numerous collaborations with choreographers and visual artists in which he works as a performer. At the same time, he has developed his own choreographic practice in the form of performances, texts, films, pedagogical exchanges and multifaceted artistic encounters. Calixto is interested in the narratives and artistic practices of actors from minority, dissident and marginal groups critical of contemporary society.
