Grip

The residency at BUDA is part of the second block of a total of three blocks of creation for the performance Grip. In Grip, the scenography will be the main counterpart. In addition to the constant focus on the visual, sound and music will also be added during this residency. At the end of the residency, Carli Gelling and her team will also take a closer look at the movement language.

Grip is a visual and dance performance for everyone aged 4 and up about the role of our imagination in relation to complex feelings such as fear. A sensory experience in which imagination and reality meet. Our imagination is infinite. Sometimes it takes us to wonderful places, other times it takes us into a dark spiral. Do we find protection and safety in our own imagination, or does it lead us deeper into confusion or scary thoughts? In Grip, a dancer enters into dialogue with the set. Together they create a landscape in which balance, control and surrender are constantly shifting. Through colours, shadows and movements, the performance shows how powerful our thoughts can be. Sometimes they make us feel stronger, sometimes they make us falter.

Carli Gellings (NL)

Carli Gellings graduated as a dancer from Fontys University of Applied Sciences in Tilburg in 2015. Since then, she has been active as a dancer and creator in other people’s creations, collective creations and her own creations. Questions that occupy her in daily life are the driving force behind her work. Not to be answered, but to make room for wonder, recognition, confusion or new perspectives. Fascinated by human beings, she explores the movements within and outside ourselves. Each creation is a shared quest, a collaborative work that can only come about through dialogue and cooperation with others.
