Hypothetical Death of the Exarchian Alpha (working title)

Hypothetical Death of the Exarchian Alpha (working title) is a performative re-adaptation of Hypothetical Death of the Exarchian Alpha (working title)  – a self-initiated research and editorial project by graphic designer and author Ella Villaumié, first published in 2020 by sun/sun Éditions in collaboration with Typical Organization.

Villaumié’s original book is a field-based investigation into the sociological, historical, and political upheavals of modern Greece through the epigraphy and visual traces on the walls of the Athenian neighbourhood of Exarcheia – a district historically associated with anarchist, anti-capitalist, and anti-fascist movements.

This performance project emerges from DARKWAVES, a field test conducted in Athens in early 2025, and continues a series of reflections on the dynamics of dissent, memory, and collective resistance in Exarcheia. It positions itself as both continuation and critique, aiming to track how insurgent energies become inscribed, erased, re-inscribed, and animated again – materially and symbolically – in the neighborhood’s everyday surfaces and rhythms.

During the residency at BUDA, they will work with dramaturg Antoine Dupuy Larbre to performatively develop research material gathered during previous residencies at RADAR and P.A.R.T.S.

Eleni Roberts Kazouri (GR) & Vladimir Babinchuk (UA/PT/ FR)

Eleni Roberts Kazuri is a dancer and maker based between Brussels and Athens. She studied dance and performance at Rallou Manou (ATH) and at P.A.R.T.S, from where she got her BA in dance (2022). Her artistic practice focuses on researching improvisational tools, along with theories and movements of resistance, with  the urge to connect choreographic practices with political struggles.

Vladimir Babinchuk is a Brussels-based dancer, choreographer, and visual artist of Ukrainian–Portuguese heritage. He graduated from P.A.R.T.S. with a BA in Dance (2022) and is completing an MA in Fine Arts (socio-political context) at Sint Lucas Antwerpen. Vladimir works with fragments of neglected archives, and the use of voice, with materials sourced from moments of collective uprising and his own diasporic heritage.

Their debut work, DARKWAVES (2025), was nominated as finalist in the Roel Verniers prize by Het Theaterfestival, and shown at MIRfestival (GR) in 2025. In 2025–26 they were selected as LIVE WORKS fellows at Centrale Fies (IT), for the remaking of the Hypothetical Death of the Exarcheian Alpha, by researcher and designer Ella Villaumié.
