CUBO

A guide to the cultural landscape of Flanders and Kortrijk

Huh, why didn’t I know this? is a book written by Egon Schoelynck containing the things he would have liked to know when he started working as a (performing) artist in Belgium: how to apply for subsidies, how the tax system works, how a trade union can help you, etc. Complex questions that Egon answers in a personal and accessible way.

Arts centre BUDA and DURF invite Egon to tell his story and then translate it to the Kortrijk context. Where can organisations, creative people, young people, etc. go with their questions? What support is available in our cultural landscape? How do Kortrijk subsidies work and which actors offer infrastructure?

An evening for everyone involved in the sector, from novice to experienced creative people, from actors to dancers, from amateurs to professionals.

Programme

7:00 p.m. Egon Schoelynck presents his book
7:45 p.m. Q&A with translation into the Kortrijk context
8:15 p.m. Networking moment

The book is also available at budascoop, in both Dutch and English. You choose how much you want to pay: €5 – €10 – €15.

Egon Schoelynck is a Sunday child and theatre maker. His work is political-ish and can be found in black boxes, on paving stones and in collective collaborations. His artistic practice was supported by detheatermaker (’22-’25), where he explored, among other things, how to run a soap opera in a café without actors. Together with Runa Robbroeckx and Lennert De Vroey, he created KAK, an ecological shitshow (2025). He also solves global problems with punk songs and children’s instruments, under the name Middle Class Babypunk.
