Theatre-maker and performer Simon Baetens co-founded the Ghent drag collective House Of Lux. With I’m Not Done, he brings an intense, playful performance about self-profiling, loneliness and being on the road.
For the first time, his drag alter ego ‘Electra’ leaves the club and appears on stage. Electra takes the audience on a musical journey through transformative virtual and emotional landscapes. An interplay of drag, music, video and text creates a dreamlike world where the boundaries between technology and reality become indistinguishable. I’m Not Done is a performance like a doom scroll, in which pop music guides you through the labyrinth of the internet. A tribute to the shameless theatricality of pop concerts and the poetry of song lyrics. Can exuberance and profundity go hand in hand?
This is the opening night of a weekend of celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Penta/Budascoop!
The evening will unfold as follows:
- 7.30 p.m. – a toast to our ‘Concrete, Brutalist Beauty’ and words of praise from Mayor Ruth Vandenberghe and councillor for Culture Felix De Clerck, among others
- 8.15 p.m. – performance of I’m Not Done by Simon Baetens, specially selected by our B-sceners, BUDA’s co-programming team
- 21:15 – intimate stage presentation by our priority partner Passerelle
We will close with drinks & DJs and who knows, maybe a surprise!
