CUBO
A visual  colourful performance with 6,000 metres of silk, six performers and live music

Anyone who describes Miet’s work will encounter secrets that are difficult to put into words. Wonder and pleasure sweep you along in a wave. It looks as if that round air cavity takes on the contours of Warlop’s skull, within which the imagination infects a whole group around her, the imagination becomes collective and thus touches our imagination. But how do you interpret the capriciousness of that imagination on stage? What is the deeper meaning of a wave that rises and then crashes? – text by Jeroen Olyslaegers

After the immense success of her previous performance ONE SONG, Miet Warlop depicts with Delirium the internal storm while creating a performance.  A sensory experience in which  image, sound, body and fabric come together in a hypnotising trip between chaos and calm. Delirium is a mental whirlwind of four solos that fuel, echo and calm each other in canon. Five performers take turns occupying the space, breathing new life into it and colouring it with their own accents.

Like ebb and flow, movement, sound and images wash over the stage until they break open. Tangibility is central: 6,500 metres of silk cloth are rolled out, folded, wrapped. They breathe, glide, swell and retreat. As temporary sculptures, they give shape to what normally remains hidden. They depict breath, time and the longing for contact in a world of discontinuity. Just like the chorus in Greek tragedy sang the unspeakable, Delirium forms a contemporary chorus of discontinuity: a chorus without harmony, a landscape of unique voices that intersect without merging.

In her artistic practice, Miet Warlop works around the tension between static images and performance. Central to her work are figurative objects, time and the (in)ability to communicate with each other. Miet is a familiar face at BUDA, which supported her from the start with residencies and co-productions. Since 2009, she has worked regularly in BUDA studios on her creations: Springville, Amusement Park, Mystery Magnet, Fruits of Labor, Big Bears Cry Too … In these, the disciplines happily trip over each other: visual art, music, theater, dance. Many of her performances are simultaneously a live concert. Musicians become authors, and actors become musicians. Warlop’s award-winning performance One Song has been touring the world since 2022.

In 2026, she will represent Belgium at the Venice Biennale. Her living musical sculpture IT NEVER SSST, curated by Caroline Dumalin (KANAL – Centre Pompidou), will be on display there from May to November 2026.
