CUBO

A contemporary tribute to our dancing ancestors

A ritual folk dance that turns into a rock-hard rave? For the opening performance, choreographer and dancer Jenna Jalonen delves into the dance history to explore the role of the circle in contemporary dance. Eight dancers take you on a tour of folklore, French cancan and club parties. Elements from medieval European folk dances merge with Middle Eastern circle dances to create an intriguing new form to a thumping electronic rhythm. Coming full circle.

Finnish-born Jenna Jalonen is not only a dancer but also a choreographer and producer. With her mixed background of gymnastics and classical ballet, Jenna uses a variety of movement styles in her own performances. From house and folk dance, to partner work and acrobatics, all these forms flow together impressively. She explores the physical limits of the body and rewrites traditional elements in a contemporary way. Her artistic work displays a wide range of physical expression, both powerful and vulnerable. The performance RING was awarded the Rudolf Laban Award, a prestigious Hungarian dance prize.
