Five years ago Léa Drouet caught COVID. The complaints persisted and eventually she got the diagnosis of long covid. And all the time woods catch fire, natural resources decrease and societies are set alight.
Whereas we are used to considering bodies, landscapes and societies as isolated entities, RODEO explores flaming up as a shared symptom : from an inflamed body and a burning landscape to a stoked up world. For this the performance rakes up various experiences : from the Zoniën wood, dried out by water stress and bodies marked by disease to the social unrest in the Lyon suburbs in the eighties. Fire is always at the centre. The organic scenography of the collective touche-touche invites the audience to gather around a central structure, a symbolic campfire, carried by the soundscapes of Laurent S. Gérard (Elg). Smoke, a powerful element full of symbolism, fills the shared space and makes memories, traumas and social tensions tangible.Thus it strengthens both the intimate and the collective experience.
RODEO is a multi-dimensional performance in which text, light, music and scenography merge into a compelling visual and auditive experience. By leaving behind the traditional narrative structure the work unfolds in an unrestrained way built on stories that flow together.
