Workspace in Kortrijk

Women* wanted for an artistic project on the perception of danger

This artistic project was carried out in collaboration with BUDA Arts Centre and Kunst Publieke Ruimte Kortrijk.

Cities by Night is a participatory project by Valentina Medda exploring how experience fear while crossing the city.
Together with women, she sets out to find the places in Kortrijk that feel safe to them.
This is different for every woman.
The women walk through the city after dark.
They avoid streets where they do not feel comfortable.
Together, all these walks form a new map of Kortrijk.

What will you be doing?

First, you’ll take part in a workshop on Sunday 25 October from 9am until noon, led by Valentina.
After that, you’ll have two weeks to go for a walk in Kortrijk yourself, in the dark.
You’ll do this once the shops have closed and the sun has set.
You’ll be given a map on which to mark the places where you feel uncomfortable.
On 8 November, you’ll hand in your map.

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for 12 women from different backgrounds, ethnicities, genders and ages.
Anyone who identifies as a woman is welcome.
You will receive a volunteer fee for this.
