50 years of Penta/Budascoop
A golden anniversary to celebrate! From 2 to 5 October, we will be paying tribute to our brutalist building. With the architectural dance performance BRUT by Kinga Jaczewska, the colourful I’m not done by Simon Baetens and artistic surprises from partner organisations Perplex and Passerelle, as well as 35mm (children’s) films from the Cinéart archive, as part of Open Cinema Days.
In March 1975, the Pentascoop opened its doors as the first cinema with five screens. Fifty years later, the building is still emblematic of the cultural landscape of Kortrijk and the wider region and is so much more than just a cinema. With the BUDA arts centre and the necessary infrastructural interventions, the building was given a broader purpose in 2006: domestic and foreign performing artists work there daily on new performances, making BUDA the largest workplace in Flanders. At the same time, the building is shared (‘BUDA is CO-‘) with other organisations for the creation or presentation of theatre, dance or film around 200 days a year.
On Thursday 2 October at 7 p.m., we start with an official toast.
