The writer Annie Ernaux returns to Rouen for a book signing. On the way, she is catapulted back to the summer of 1958, when, as a young girl, she had her first sexual experiences at a summer camp. One night in particular – and her far from tender first experience with a man – is etched in her memory and has shaped the rest of her life.
#MeToo avant la lettre: a poignant and personal drama about how a single night can turn a life upside down. For her second feature film, Judith Godrèche adapts the autobiographical novel of the same name by Nobel Prize winner Annie Ernaux. Mémoire de fille looks back through a contemporary lens at desire, shame and power dynamics, at a time when such topics could scarcely be discussed. The film had its world premiere in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival.
