In the early 2000s, whilst Kate Moss was at the height of her fame as a supermodel, she agreed to pose for the idiosyncratic artist Lucian Freud, widely regarded as one of the greatest painters of the twentieth century. The numerous modelling sessions brought a sense of calm and discipline to Moss’s hectic life. A special friendship developed between the two, based on connection, love and mutual respect. Freud’s inquisitive and observant style managed to reveal the vulnerability behind Moss’s public image. Ironically, neither Moss nor Freud were entirely satisfied with the final portrait, which was only completed in 2002. The art world, however, responded with enthusiasm.
