Uiko Watanabe

Hikidashi is a piece of dance, theater and music about a father and his daughter in Japan. This first residency will be an opportunity for the 3 performers to explore their relationship on stage and establish the initial bases of the dramaturgy and the relationship between body, text and music.

Uiko is born in Kanagawa, Japan. She is trained as a dancer in the Netherlands at the SNDO in Amsterdam and the EDDC in Arnhem. Based in Brussels since 2001, she has danced for a different choreographers including Manuela Rastardi, Maria Clara Villa Lobos and Fatou Traore. She also works as a theatre actress. She created “La Pièce avec les légumes” in 2008, “La Pièce avec les gâteaux” in 2009, “La dernière scène” in 2010 and “Hako Onna” in 2012, “Oshiire” in 2015, “OMOI” in collaboration with musician/composer Sarah Wéry in 2016.

In 2022-23, she is working on new creations with Armel Roussel (Utopia theatre company) as an actress and her own creations “Toujours là” and “Hikidashi (Tiroir)” (Creation 2024). She also teaches Butoh dance in several institutions.
