Ophelia comes to Brooklyn maakt deel uit van The Aunt Project. Daarin confronteert Katja haarzelf en het publiek met wat er overblijft als een familielid sterft: herinneringen, voorwerpen, onafgewerkte zaken, droefenis en heel veel vragen…

Het theaterstuk Ophelia comes to Brooklyn werd geschreven door Katja’s tante Antje Katcher. Katja erfde het toen Antje stierf. Ze kenden elkaar amper; Antje trok naar New York in 1967 en had amper nog contact met de rest van de familie. Ze was schrijver, uitgever en activist. Ze schreef het toneelstuk in 1982 in New York. Het werd nooit eerder opgevoerd.

Tijdens hun residentie in BUDA graven Kaja, Davis en Dolly in de tekst en proberen te achterhalen wat de 35-jaar oude tekst Ophelia comes to Brooklyn ons kan vertellen over vandaag, over het verleden, over de schrijfster en over onszelf.

Katja Dreyer (DE/BE)

Katja Dreyer was born in Berlin in 1974. She studied drama (directing and acting) in the Netherlands and has lived in Brussels since 2004. In her own work she tries to shed light on history and its consequences by zooming in on the personal lives of ordinary people. As a performer, she worked for Mette Ingvartsen, Mette Edvardsen, Miet Warlop, Ivana Müller, David Weber-Krebs and Superamas, among others. She regularly worked at BUDA studios (e.g. with Ingvartsen or Warlop, or for her own show Chronicle). For Ophelia comes to Brooklyn – programmed during Almost Summer festival in June 2018 – Katja collaborated with Davis Freeman and Dolores Hulan.
