Spelling Spectacle

spelling spectacle

Spelling Spectacle is a performance about logic, consequence and possibility by Ingrid Berger Myhre, created and performed together with Nicola Gunn and Ida Wigdel. With “if, then” as its underlying idea, the piece explores what a coherent choreographic train of thought might look like. What determines what follows, and how? Based on what elements does something acquire meaning? And what does that say about the background to our reading?

The title Spelling Spectacle is an alliteration, in which both words have a double meaning. Both evoke a sense of magic, beyond their literal meaning related to reading or seeing. ‘To spell’ is to spell something out, but ‘a spell’ is a magic spell;’spectacle(s)’ is a spectacle to watch, or glasses to see with.

‘These two weeks in BUDA are the last two before our premiere at SPRING festival in Utrecht. It is our editing period, that is, the moment when the final artistic choices are made, the choreographic material is finalised, and all the elements (choreography, lighting, sound, scenography) come together to form a performance.’
