Melody Van Gompel & Marie De Buck (BE/VN)

WEATHER PLEASURE

Weather Pleasure

Marie De Buck and Melody Van Gompel will explore common imagined images for their new creation during this residency. They will experiment and explore on the floor. It will be a technical creation, so choreographically they will dialogue with the space, light and smoke machines. Both of them yearn for lasting and moving transformations within their created imagined worlds, so the (re)searching will continue, stays, always.

WEATHER PLEASURE will be performed at LOD in Ghent on 15 and 16 May and will also be shown at the Toneelscholenfestival in the summer.

Melody Van Gompel & Marie De Buck (BE/VN)

Melody Van Gompel and Marie De Buck met each other for the first time four years ago. Since then, their artistic desires have remained intertwined. They create from images that speak, in which words quieten into suggestive and poetic worlds of imagination. An embodied ‘sisterhood’ that continues to blossom through hybrid forms of playing and making.

Melody Van Gompel is a young artist from Brussels. She studied drama at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven and her passion for the performing and dance arts grew and brought her to KASK/School of Arts Ghent. Her first steps in the film world began in 2016. She moves through various performative spaces: dancing, playing in front of the camera, painting with brushes, also in words, and finally searching and asking on stage: transforming. A search for connections between different (art) forms, and wanting to embody the eclectic imagination in an evocative, contemplative and poetic language.

Marie Nguyen De Buck is a Vietnamese-Belgian young creator and performer from Brussels. She started studying visual and architectural arts at Sint-Lucas Ghent and then changed to word art-drama at the Kunsthumaniora Brussels. She was also part of the feminist collective for women of colour Bledarte. She later went on to study acting at the RITCS. Marie is inspired by contradiction and is in search of the pragmatic within an abstract and performative language. She wants to tell stories, as well as question and experiment through different media such as: theatre, dance, film, installation and scenography.
