Azad means free. Azad is also the name of Lila’s great-grandmother. This creation explores identity and judgement, but also the complexity of femininity in a world that doesn’t understand everything.
‘Azad’ means ‘free’. It is also the name of Lila Magnin’s great-grandmother. The solo creation ‘Azad’ explores identity and judgement, but also the complexity of femininity in a world that doesn’t understand everything. The choreographer interrogates us about this body that is constantly sent back to us like a weight. Wouldn’t it actually be a source of strength? And how do we achieve a sense of freedom when our identity is constantly defined by oppressive labels? Perhaps it is beyond the physical body that freedom is found?
