Let’s think back to the very beginning. There lies man. Dirty, stranded, full of nostalgia for his origin in the slippery water. What happens when we penetrate this image, if we want to catch a glimpse of the precious life in the ‘lower’ layers of our experience that are now sealed under the concrete of civilisation ?
Based on personal experiences that are connected with his physical handicap Michael Turinsky sketches a human utopia beyond the anthropocene. In it a body that is sterile, erect and endlessly productive is contrasted with a body that is close to the ground – it’s porous, unclean, unproductive. In the performance SOILED that body is recognized as deeply human. With three performers drenched in pumpkin seed oil, Turinsky opens a highly imaginative space in which the outlines of a new community become visible. At NEXT the Austrian performer also presents his solo Precarious Moves.
