INTENSE WEDDING OF DANCE AND MUSIC

In The Listener suit 2020, the Swedish choreographer continues her research with nine dancers from the famous Cullberg ensemble. Again, rhythm, voice and movement underpin a multi-layered performance. In it, your own perceptions are especially central. In polyrhythmic music, you choose which layers of rhythm to focus on. Between sound and movement, dance and music, the viewer/listener discovers surprising freedom.

Music is an essential component of all the projects of Alma Söderberg, who lives and works in Brussels as a choreographer, performer and musician. She uses her voice and body to play the space as if it were an instrument. Her current research focuses on the way we listen while we look, on the relationship between the ear and the eye. She has embedded her practice in a number of solo performances before creating group shows in collaboration with various well-known artists, collectives and institutions, such as the Swedish ensemble Cullberg, with whom she created The Listeners and Noche, presented during NEXT 2022. With a background in contemporary dance and flamenco, she always works closely with sound artist Hendrik Willekens. Alma Söderberg also curates for festivals such as the EarEye festival in Malmö, and has won the Thalia prize and been awarded the Cullberg grant.
