A dance to postpone the apocalypse
What if Western philosophers Descartes or Spinoza had visited the Brazilian rainforest? Brazilian poet Paulo Leminski’s Catatau poem or romance-idea is based on this dream: a philosopher is confronted with a new environment that bankrupts his thoughts. He arrives at the Atlantic Forest where everything is astonishing, where there is an abundant profusion of life, where the heat melts your brain and where everything you eat or touch makes you acutely aware of your body.
In this landscape, three dancers whisper, sing and eat. A blend of voices, gestures and bodies sharing a stage that becomes the forest of our unconscious. Freire wonders how we find enough joy and pleasure to avoid falling into melancholy and climate anxiety. How do we create a dance to postpone the end of the world?
