CUBO

1 performer, 1 white sheet, 1 tear. These are the basic ingredients for the meditative Paper Lane.

For this wordless performance, Olga de Soto drew inspiration from Hartmut Rosa’s theory on the need to slow down and a gesture used by Sophie Whettnall on some of her works with paper. The result: the uninterrupted, very precise tearing of a long strip of paper. The slowness and precision immerse you completely in the current moment. This act of rebellion against an ever-faster evolving society makes you stop and think about the simplicity of movements and natural materials. A performance that straddles the line between meditation and manifestation and which invites visitors to push the pause button.

Olga de Soto is a Spanish choreographer, dancer, performer, and dance researcher based in Brussels. She graduated from Centre National de Danse Contemporaine d’Angers (CNDC) with a degree in classical ballet, contemporary dance, and music theory. Her work focuses on the themes of memory, trace, and transmission and mixes the language of choreography with those of documentary, performance, visual arts, and installation, playing with the porousness of those disciplines. Her work has been presented in about twenty countries, at numerous venues and festivals. Since 2019, she is a guest lecturer of the Master in Dance of the Antwerp Conservatory / Artesis Plantijn Hogeschool Antwerp.
